BBC Sport – Danny Welbeck picked in England squad to face Netherlands.

England squad to play Netherlands on 10 August:

Robert Green, Joe Hart, David Stockdale

Leighton Baines, Gary Cahill, Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Phil Jagielka, Joleon Lescott, Micah Richards, John Terry, Kyle Walker

Gareth Barry, Michael Carrick, Stewart Downing, Adam Johnson, Frank Lampard, James Milner, Scott Parker, Jack Wilshere, Ashley Young

Andy Carroll, Peter Crouch, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck.

Some nice picks in Fabio Capello’s England squad to face The Netherlands next week with Danny Welbeck getting rewarded for some outstanding work for England U21′s and for Man Utd on their tour of the US, but as usual, this old Italian never ceases to amaze the “adoring” English public.

Why, oh why, do we still have to trot out  players who have proven to have outlasted their shelf life. I’m talking about James Milner, Frank Lampard and the God awful Gareth Barry. Capello already has two other holding midfielders in the squad in Parker and Carrick so no need for Milner or Barry, and play Rooney in the role he plays for United so replacing the need for Lampard who is a dud now anyway that Chelsea lost their shine and polish.

Use those three picks to now bring in Rodwell, Defoe, and maybe Gibbs ?

C’mon, Fabio. Show us you’ve learned, will you ?

…….and for good measure, this friendly just illustrates what idiotic administrators we have running FIFA. These clowns schedule international dates one week after the end of a long season, and one week into the new season. Simply jaw dropping in stupidity.
